The Callus: That New York Times Story On Apple →
thecallus: “Nimble” competitors are “nimble” because they can wake up 8000 people in the middle of the night with tea and a biscuit. By that standard, I’d imagine a Georgia plantation in 1847 was nimble as fuck. Look at the “employees” dancing nimbly for the whip! China is a slave state that permits hundreds of thousands of people to live like cattle. American companies that utilize this labor...

vicemag: Kickstarter is annoying but like please please please help make this Bill Callahan doc happen. PS We were thinking of starting a rumor that in certain locales they’re running advertisements for Bank of America set to the tune of Callahan’s “America!” If anyone has any advice on how to start rumors, let us know. Backed this.  No-brainer.

Should The Times Be A Truth Vigilante? →
soupsoup: I hope this is a joke. The New York Times Public Editor wonders aloud if their journalists should be reporting the truth. Seriously? Not a joke.  Rather, a remarkable (and rare) instance of unintended honesty from the paper of record, acknowledgment and encapsulation of the propaganda model, in which “necessary illusions” subjugate “truth”.  Illuminating.

HOPE.
soupsoup: “In sum: the President can kill whomever he wants anywhere in the world (including U.S. citizens) without a shred of check or oversight, and has massively escalated these killings since taking office (at the time of Obama’s inauguration, the U.S. used drone attacks in only one country (Pakistan); under Obama, these attacks have occurred in at least six Muslim countries). Because it’s a...

…consider that some infinities are larger than others. For example, there are more fractions than there are counting numbers, yet they are both infinite. Just a thought to delay your sleep this evening.” —Neil deGrasse Tyson - AMA on Reddit [via jtotheizzoe]

White America embraced Thanksgiving because a majority of that population glories in the fruits, if not the unpleasant details, of genocide and slavery and feels, on the whole, good about their heritage: a cornucopia of privilege and national power. Children are taught to identify with the good fortune of the Pilgrims. It does not much matter that the Native American and African holocausts that...

“Mr. Bloomberg met daily with several deputies and commissioners, and as more...”
– This meme, of journalists describing elected officials (or, nonsensically, municipalities) as moving to dismantle these protests because their “patience wore thin” is particularly irksome. Because, and any competent editor/reporter should know this, the right to peaceably assemble isn’t subject to...

David: I’d like to see/read a thriller in which John Riggins and, like, Adam Gopnik solve crimes together. Or Mike Martz and Condoleeza Rice. Jeff: It’s called “Connect Four”. Riggins is the mastermind, and he pursues these people because he knows that no one would ever assume they would work together on a crime. Martz does all blueprints. Condoleeza has all sorts of...
